WHO ARE WE?
THE TEAM BEHIND TRUNE
The initial idea for Trune was born in 2020 when Herbi faced the challenge of taking the Retrospective meetings online. He looked for a tool that would suit his needs but his team never really engaged that well. At the same time, Matthias faced the challenge of building a team but the team would sit in another city while he was located in Vienna (and COVID had hit full force). So Herbi decided to build his own tool. The very first version was still clunky but still recieved good feedback. The logical next step was to improve the UI and so they added a User Interface Designer to the team.
When they founded as fraankly in 2021 the growth was incredible. With the substantial growth in users and customers, the product team also expanded and step by step would not only enable engaging retrospectives but also interactive team feedback meetings and team health checks.
At the beginning of 2022, it became clear that fraankly was way more than a retrospective tool. It’s a way to truly connect with and as a team. That’s why we decided to change the name from fraankly to Trune and we will continue to provide nothing less than a world class tool so you can thrive as a team.
Why and How?
There are a great many Retrospective tools out there. A Plenty will tell you, that they are easier to use than any other tool, while others say they are free but ultimately just want you to sign up, and then you will need to pay to actually use the tool in a meaningful way.
We think much of this is just marketing blah blah. Having a great UI und easy-to-use are not a USPs, rather they should be default „features“.
Being really for free means either you are the product or you will face massive limitations (there is just no way someone can put together a tool in his spare time with the same quality as a full time paid team).
We want to provide you with a tool to let you truly connect with your team. Wether remote or hybrid. We want you to truly connect with your team and everything we build will put that first. Everything we build will put that first. That is why you should use Trune.

At one point, it became clear our old name, fraankly, was not how customers saw us anymore. It also no longer matched our vision. The product and vision evolved into much more than just being able to speak up frankly.
So, we talked to our customers and spent very, very long evenings discussing it, and were driven to choose a name that would really reflect what Trune is.
Our conclusion was that what our customers do are Retrospectives and Feedback Meetings, but what they love is that the tool provides them with the possibility to (re-) connect with their team, even when they don’t see them in person for weeks or months in person.
In times of endless online meetings it is significantly harder to build a true connection. Some have even never even seen part of their team in person.
Receiving the feedback that Trune has evolved into a tool that allows Scrum Masters and Team Leaders to do exactly that is just awesome!
Our Trune journey is kind of incredible. It all began as a one-man show but quickly evolved into a multi-national team working hard to provide our customers the best service possible.
We even quickly faced the question of wether to continue bootstrapping or bring an investor on board. For now, we have decided to build Trune as a bootstrapped business because we feel that’s the way we can serve our customers best.
Working with a distributed team ourselves, we live the experience of facing many of the same challenges our customers do. That’s why we built Trune, and that’s why everyone is committed to the vision of building tools that give every single team member a voice.
We experienced first hand that thriving teams that share ideas and make them a reality require a tool, facilitating or (better „and“ but both is hard ;)) a culture that does not hold back creative energy, doubt, goals, or craziness.
Building as a team while just being is phenomenal. That’s what we want to share. We absolutely love to enabling teams to perform at their best.
